Sri Lanka will establish 25 mini technology incubation centers across the country to support rural industries and small entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement on Tuesday.
Minister of Science and Technology Chrishantha Abeysena made the announcement at a meeting with entrepreneurs, saying that the new centers will provide technical support for agriculture, industry, and traditional crafts, helping upgrade local products to export standards and enabling them to compete with imports.
Abeysena said the project is part of a government plan to restructure grassroots resource centers as hubs for transferring scientific and technological knowledge from research institutions to communities.
The minister said discussions are also underway with local banks to provide financial facilities for small businesses, while local councils will be engaged in creating market access for their products.
